Auto sales on the rise for the holidays

Chrysler saw a 20% increase from last November

(NBC News) – The big auto makers have reason to be jolly this holiday season.

November sales figures released Tuesday show a huge improvement over last year. Chrysler leads the way, posting a 20 percent jump from last November.

General Motors followed, with sales climbing 6.5 percent. It’s a trend that’s beating expectations, but is not a complete surprise.

“2014 has been a strong year. It’s going to be the strongest since pre-recession by a pretty significant margin,” says Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell.

The major reasons for the November gains are a stronger economy, heavy discounting and falling fuel prices.
