SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of bags of crack cocaine labeled “Blackjack” were among the items seized from the home of an alleged Springfield drug dealer known on the streets as “Big.”

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that narcotics detectives began investigating 23 year-old Jose Claudio (a.k.a. Big), who they suspected of operating a crack cocaine and heroin dealing operation out of his house on Judson Street in Liberty Heights. Delaney says investigators found that Claudio would also make deliveries all around the city.

Police arrested Claudio at around 11:00 Monday night while interrupting a heroin deal Delaney says the suspect was making. The officers then searched his house, where they allegedly found the 50 bags of crack, as well as $400 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.

He is being charged with distribution of crack cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and violation of a drug free school zone (the Liberty School is right across the street from his home.)

Claudio is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Springfield District Court.
