BOSTON (WWLP) – Kinder Morgan’s pipeline proposal has stirred a lot of opposition in western Massachusetts. A new proposed path for the pipeline could shift a lot of the impact to New Hampshire.
Kinder Morgan’s plan to build a natural gas pipeline through Massachusetts angered a lot of people. The initial plan had the proposed pipeline cut through Berkshire and Franklin Counties, but the company is seriously considering a new path.
The alternate route would still start in western Massachusetts, but would veer north into southern New Hampshire – sparing six Berkshire County areas including Lenox and Pittsfield.
“I’m happy that it’s being talked about getting out of my district on some very important preserved areas we’ve worked very hard to protect,” said Lenox State Representative “Smitty” Pignatelli. They’re taking some good steps, but we have a long way to go and a lot of questions to be answered.”
Kinder Morgan has made no final decisions regarding a new pipeline path.
Any changes Kinder Morgan decides to make will be filed with the federal regulators next month.
