Holiday shopping in full swing at Thornes Marketplace

Shoppers go to Thornes for unique items, customer service

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Thornes Marketplace may not get the Black Friday rush of the big box stores, but they like it that way. Instead, the retailers in Thornes cater to customers who want something unique.

This Christmas, people are buying scarves and hats, they’re buying cookware, books, meaningful ornaments and bath and body products.

Cedar Chest’s store manager told 22News that shoppers have already started checking items off their Christmas list despite the fact that Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet.

Bridget Martin said, “It’s been a little slower this year, I think because Thanksgiving is so late. I think we are going to get a bigger rush in December than we normally get, but they’ve definitely started. Bag Day in Northampton usually kicks it off.”

Bag Day in Northampton was last Saturday.

Martin told 22News they won’t have any special deals on Black Friday because they are not trying to compete with the big box retailers. She said you’ll get more unique items and better customer service from the small independent retailers inside Thornes.
