Students raise funds to help blind vets get guide dogs

Students spent afternoon at Barnes and Noble near Holyoke Mall

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s been a day of community service in Holyoke for students who attend the Wilbraham & Monson Academy. The students spent the afternoon at Barnes and Noble book store near the Holyoke Mall.

They raised money to help blind veterans receive a Fidelco Guide Dog German Shepherd. A young Fidelco dog named Pierce made quite an impression with the book store visitors.

Pam Goodling told 22News, “Pierce is 19 weeks old and I’ve had him since he was eight weeks old. It’s great exposure for Pierce; children and lots of people are coming to see him, it’s been good for him as well.”

Fidelco is based in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Students from the Wilbraham & Monson Academy said the guide dog awareness program is too important to be overlooked.
