SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A driver who allegedly tried to run over two state police troopers in Springfield Sunday afternoon is still on the loose after ditching the stolen car he was driving.

State Police Sgt. Alan Jourbert told 22News, troopers connected with the community action team helping Springfield police spotted the stolen car on Sumner avenue near Longhill street in the Forest Park neighborhood.

Sgt. Joubert said that after the stolen car spun out on Longhill street, the driver tried to run down the two troopers, but they got out of the way and weren’t hurt. The Red Chevy Cobalt was found a few minutes later on nearby Woodside Terrace. When they catch the driver they’ll charge him with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. The man they’re looking for is said to be a Hispanic man in the 20s.
