SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Boys and Girls club Festival of Trees is among the most eagerly awaited holiday season events here in Western Massachusetts.
The 142 trees were put in place on the second floor at Tower Square in downtown Springfield. More trees than ever before and this is the fourteenth annual festival of trees.
The pre opening crowd, many of whom donated a tree, is filled with praise over this year’s collection.
“Well it’s only my second year but my fiancée it’s here 9th year actually, putting up a tree here and I’ve got to tell you, compared with last year, It’s better than last year,” said Carl Schwarzenbach of Westfield.
“I keep coming every year and it keeps getting better, more trees, more sponsors. We come out every year, but the number of people that you see here,” Stacy Stepanik said.
The Festival of Trees has become an important Boys and Girls club fundraiser. The doors to the tree festival formally open right after the parade of the big balloons downtown Thanksgiving morning.
The tree festival continues until December 14th. What happens to the beautifully decorated trees, they’re raffled off to some fortunate families.
