SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Renovations are nearly complete at Springfield’s iconic Student Prince restaurant. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the downtown eatery also known to as “The Fort.”
The German restaurant will be opened to the public starting next Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
After nearly 85 years in business, the restaurant closed its doors in late June. Even before the restaurant shut down, however, it was announced that Peter Pan Bus Lines owner Peter Picknelly had entered an agreement to purchase the restaurant. He partnered with area restaurant groups to re-launch the Fort.
Renovations have been ongoing since the summer, and crews have been working to update the Student Prince, while maintaining the artwork, steins, and other collectibles that made the place so unique.
