HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Shootings and other high-profile incidents have increased attention on the safety of children at school. With this focus on keeping children safe, about 250 people gathered at the Log Cabin in Holyoke Tuesday for the beginning of a two-day school safety summit.
The third annual event was organized by the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. Members of the U.S. Secret Service were among the speakers at the conference, where the theme was identifying at-risk youths.
Additionally, there is a focus on ensuring that it isn’t just teachers that maintain a focus on school safety. Emphasis is being placed on ensuring that other school employees, such as paraprofessionals, custodians, kitchen staff, office workers, and nurses, are included in the discussion about safety.
