Buildings shine “Light in White” for lung cancer awareness

Every year lung cancer takes almost 160,000 lives

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Tuesday night buildings across the Pioneer Valley shone bright to bring attention to a deadly disease.

The Basketball Hall of Fame lit up its white lights, and Tower Square in Springfield did the same.
They’re just some of the first business to “Shine Bright” in support of lung cancer awareness.

Amy Liptak Caruso, who started the campaign, told 22News this cause is close to her heart.

“In 2010 our mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and we, and she, and all of our friends, were so surprised, because she never smoked or worked in an environment known for lung cancer causes,” said Caruso.

Every year lung cancer takes almost 160,000 lives, more people than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined.
