EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The release of surveillance images to the public may have helped Easthampton police make an arrest in the attempted robbery of a 7-Eleven store.

According to a news release sent to 22News by Easthampton police, Jose F. Alicea, 30, of Northampton, was arrested Sunday night, following tips from members of the public who saw surveillance images from the Union Street store.

Police say that before 4:00 Friday morning, the suspect entered the convenience store and pointed a weapon at the clerk, demanding money. He didn’t end up getting anything, and ran away south down Union Street.

Alicea, whose address is listed as “the streets of Northampton,” is being charged with armed assault with intent to rob a person 60+ years of age, assault with a dangerous weapon, attempt to commit a crime, and stealing by confinement, injury, or threat. He was held on $5,000 bail pending his arraignment Monday at Northampton District Court.
