Woman arrested for embezzling over $1M

Middletown, Conn. (WTNH)– A Bristol woman was arrested Wednesday after stealing from her former employer.

According to police, 41 year old Gail Zolla, embezzled over $1 million from her former employer, Electrical Wholesalers. Zolla turned herself in at the Bristol Police Department on February 15, after Electrical Wholesalers began to suspect she was behind the missing money. Middletown police took over the investigation soon after.

Police say that Zolla began working for Electrical Wholesalers in February 2007. During that time, she wrote 470 fake company checks, and deposited them into her personal bank account. Police discovered the checks when they served Zolla with a search warrant at her home and on her bank accounts.

Zolla told police that she spent the money on landscaping, vacations, cars and other household expenses. The majority of the money hasn’t been recovered.

Zolla is charged with one count of larceny and over 300 counts of forgery. She is being held on a $250,000 bond.
