SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Mass Appeal) – Meet Mass Appeal’s pet of the week!
Breed: Guinea Pig
Age: 2 Years Old
Color: Black/gray coat
Stripe is a very mellow, 2 year old Peruvian guinea pig. Most guinea pigs live about 5-7 years, and they make a great pet for older children who have mastered proper handling techniques. Guinea pig pellets are the basis of their diet and timothy hay-based pellets are recommended for adults. Avoid those made with nuts, seeds, dried fruits and corn products. They love leafy green vegetables, green peppers, peas, apples, blueberries, oranges and grapes. Believe it or not, they’re known to be vocal, and can whistle and grunt when they’re excited or squeak with delight when their favorite humans enter the room! Come see Stripe at Dakin’s Springfield location…he’s very special and can’t wait to go home with somebody!
Small Animals Abound!
Right now, Dakin has a large amount of small animals for adoption…much more than our usual amount! Check out our website – http://www.dakinhumane.org – to see a variety of hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, chinchillas, ferrets, birds, mice and even rats! Rats can be terrific pets for several reasons, believe it or not!
Matching Donor Program
$25,000 Challenge – Dakin was recently given a challenge by an anonymous donor to raise $100,000 by November 15 in order to receive a dollar-for-dollar match by the donor. We met that figure last week, so now the donor has added another $25,000 to the pot and has challenged us to raise that much more by this Saturday, November 15. So every monetary donation to Dakin before this Saturday will be matched by this donor, thus doubling your impact!
Dogs & Storks
This Saturday, November 15, Dakin will present the Dogs & Storks Workshop at our Springfield location at 10am. This terrific program teaches families with dogs how to prepare for baby before baby arrives! You’ll learn how to introduce your dog to the baby, how to read your dog for signs of stress and how to create a safe environment for everyone. The cost is $25 for two people to attend, and is for adults only…please don’t bring dogs or babies! Visit www.dakinhumane.org to register or call 413.781.4000
