CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – As inclement weather is expected to last from Thursday night through rush hour Friday morning, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be careful.
According to 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis, we’re expecting enough snow to leave a light accumulation just about everywhere in western Massachusetts. Bridges will freeze first overnight, but watch out for slippery spots everywhere.
“It’s amazing because we live in New England, but it seems like every year the first snow, it’s like everyone forgets how to drive. Suddenly you hear of all these fender benders, people sliding into each other,” said Alania Lunden of Chicopee.
MassDOT encourages drivers to drive slowly and allow for extra time during the morning commute. It also pays to prepare your car for winter driving, including having winter car supplies.
Lapis said that the snow is expected to end between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., with temperatures in the 20s and 30s at 7:00 a.m.
