Improvements coming to Balliet Park in Springfield

Plans include tennis courts, splash pad

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Residents of Springfield’s Pine Point neighborhood will soon be enjoying a completely refurbished Balliet Park. Mayor Domenic Sarno and other city officials announced an $850,000 rehabilitation project for the park, located on Breckwood Boulevard.

Work on the project starts next Monday. The renovated park will include tennis courts, a playground, new basketball courts, a soccer field, and a baseball diamond. There will also be a splash pad, which will be completed by December and will be open by the summer months.

Shadae Thomas, the principal of the nearby Thomas Balliet School, says that this is something they are looking forward to.

“Students are very excited, staff, parents are very excited to be able to utilize this space but more importantly for our community. It was necessary, so we’re glad that the Mayor and the Pine Point Council were able to make this happen,” Thomas said.

The project should be completed by June of next year.
