Holyoke firefighters recognized with awards ceremony

Three Holyoke firefighters received award for distinguished service

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 100 people packed the Holyoke Fire Department headquarters Thursday night as they gave out awards for distinguished and honorable service, and courage.

Retired Captain Joseph Beaulieu was one of three retired firefighters receiving the distinguished service award. “We always try to serve the city in the best way possible, while enforcing the fire codes as required by the state law,” said Beaulieu.

Also honored were Lt. Thomas Paquin and Fire Inspector Jordan Lemieux, both retired, as well as Lt. Maria Pelchar. Firefighter Ronald Deroy received the Arthur Petit Memorial Award.

One person given an award Thursday, who isn’t a firefighter, was the wife of City Councilor Joseph McGiverin, Jennie. She received the Lieutenant Denial Boyle Award.
