GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greenfield Solar Challenge has been extended up until Thanksgiving for businesses and homeowners who want to join.

It all started when the City of Greenfield started the initiative back in August challenging people to go solar. As an incentive, the more people who sign up, the cheaper it is.

PV Squared has partnered with Greenfield to make this challenge possible. Andy Toomajian from PV Squared told 22News, the program has been more successful than they thought it’d be.

“The town has a sustainable master plan and part of that is increasing the adoption of renewable energy. That has a lot of benefits, benefits to the environment, benefits to the local economy, obvious benefit to the home owners who save a lot of money on energy cost and what we’re seeing is we’re seeing at least a triple of what was installed last year,” said Toomajian.

Toomajian added that they can estimate just how much money you could save on your energy bill by going solar.
