First snowfall forecast for western Mass.

The first snowfall of the season could impact the early morning commute on Friday

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – After temperatures in the 60s on Wednesday, it was a lot colder on Thursday with highs only in the 40s. There was plenty of sunshine but that will all be changing as some snow is in the forecast for western Massachusetts and not everyone is ready for it.

“No not yet it’s way too early for snow I was hoping for December, late November but I guess it’s coming earlier,” said Jack Francisco of West Springfield.

At Rocky’s Ace Hardware in Agawam the winter supplies are already out. There’s plenty of salt and ice melt available and the snow brushes and scrapers are out too. And some people were buying shovels in anticipation of the snow.

While our first snowfall of the season is expected overnight it could impact the early morning commute on Friday.

“Well you know the first time you encounter the stuff everybody forgets to not hit the brake hard so after you’ve done it the snow for a couple of times you remember but that first everybody forgets that you don’t slam the brake on,” said Mark Morris of West Springfield.

“Take you time a lot of extra time and drive safe that’s all. Keep your windows clean, keep the snow off the car so it doesn’t fall off onto anybody else’s car or street,” said William Fitzgerald of West Springfield.

So even though it doesn’t look like a lot of snow you definitely want use caution if you plan to travel in it.
