UMass police searching for shower “peeper”

Four incidents reported at John Adams Hall

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at UMass Amherst are concerned about reports of a “Peeping Tom” on campus who has trying to catch a glimpse of students as they shower.

UMass Police sent out an alert on Saturday night to warn students of four incidents that occurred in bathrooms on the third and sixth floors of the

John Quincy Adams Residence Hall. Two women reported seeing a black iPhone under the shower, which could have been taking pictures or videos.

John Adams resident Maija Hall told 22News that she wants the university to do more to make students feel safer.

“I do feel like there has been an increase in events like this, because there’s not cameras on floors. I definitely probably am not going to shower alone in the bathroom if someone is walking around looking at us while we shower,” Hall said.

UMass spokesperson Daniel Fitzgibbons told 22News that the “peeper” is described as a white man in his early 20s with dark hair. So far, UMass police have no suspects, and are asking students for help to identify him.
