BOSTON (WWLP) – Students from UMass Amherst were given a break from the classroom on Monday to learn the ins-and-outs of the State House from their professor.

Their professor also happens to be a state lawmaker, Holyoke State Rep. Aaron Vega. He brought his students to Boston to show them what it’s like going from the campaign trail to a seat at the State House.

The students toured the historic building and even spoke with State Treasurer Steven Grossman. UMass Senior Ryan DiZoglio shared what he learned from the field trip. “Treasurer Grossman pointed it out perfectly when he said you have to develop relationships to pass policies. If you’re not you’re going to be at a standstill.”

The field trip was an eye-opening experience for many. Ryan is graduating next year and told 22News he plans to run for City Councilor in his hometown of Methuen.
