SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A newly constructed Television Center in Springfield was dedicated to a former Springfield Mayor today.
This morning, Dozens of people, including Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, attended a ceremony dedicating the city’s new community television center in honor of former Mayor Theodore E. Dimauro.
Dimauro, who served as Mayor from 1978 to 1984, signed the city’s first cable television contract. He passed away in September 2013 at age 80.
Wendy Leak a volunteer at the center, told 22news how the television center can help anyone aspiring for a career in broadcast journalism.
Leak said, “There are vast amounts of opportunities. You definitely have to keep up on of course what’s going on in the news, what’s going on in the media. Everything is fast growing as far as technology.”
The television center opened in June and is located at the corner of Main and State Streets.
