BOSTON (AP) — A 25-year-old Boston teacher is on administrative leave after being accused of indecently touching an 8-year-old at a hospital.

Juan Cortes pleaded not guilty Monday to indecent assault and battery on a child. A judge set $500 cash bail and ordered him to wear a GPS monitor, keep a curfew and avoid all children under 16.

Prosecutors said Cortes was arrested Sunday after Boston Medical Center police reported the child had been assaulted there earlier that day. Police said they spoke with witnesses and reviewed hospital surveillance footage.

The Boston schools said Cortes teaches third and fourth graders at Mission Hill K-8 School. Interim Superintendent John McDonough said Cortes has passed several background checks. He said the allegations “are still just that, but they are absolutely unacceptable. ” McDonough said school officials are helping investigators.
