Coyote/wolf stalks pets in East Haven

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Halloween was more than a week ago, but I guess it’s not too late to be telling stories about scary beasts roaming your neighborhood. Somewhere out in the dark in parts of East Haven, there in the dark lurks an animal that is apparently stalking the local pets.

Charter Oak Avenue, Hughes Street, Church Street, and Short Beach Road are some of the places where people have reported seeing what looks like a coyote, a wolf, or maybe a coywolf, a  coyote-wolf hybrid. That’s what one man says he saw recently on Short Beach Road. He described the animal as much bigger than a coyote, but without the prominent shoulder blades of a wolf.

Some people have gotten some pretty clear pictures of it and sent them in through our Reportit feature. Whatever it is, it does not seem to be targeting three little pigs, little red riding hood or the roadrunner. Instead, it seems to be going after local pets. People in these neighborhoods are reporting cats and small dogs are missing, so it is probably a good idea for folks in East Haven, especially south of I-95, to keep small pets inside, especially at night.
