Hundreds turn out for Fontenot benefit

Those who didn't run the course would walk

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of men and women ran and walked along Holyoke’s Ashley Reservoir Sunday for a common cause.

They rallied for the late Lt. Colonel Morris “Moose” Fontenot. The money they raised Sunday will benefit Lt. Colonel Fontenot’s widow and two daughters. Fontenot died when his jet fighter from Barnes Air National Guard base crashed in late August.

Fellow 104th Fighter Wing pilot Osme Benedict spoke with 22News about his fallen comrade, saying, “Moose always pushed us to be a better fighter pilot, and today I’m ready to test my personal limits.”

Those who didn’t run the 4.5 miles through the woods would walk the route. They were determined to raise as much money as possible for Fontenot’s family.
