Monte’s March across WMass raising money for Food Bank

Fifth-annual march raised more than $65,000 this year

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – It may have been a rainy day, but it didn’t stop one group in western Massachusetts from walking to raise money for a very worthy cause.

Radio host Monte Belmonte and Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) pushed shopping carts for 26 miles from Northampton to Greenfield to raise money for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. And their awareness efforts worked, as more and more walkers joined them along the way.

“People who have a lot don’t always think about those who are struggling all the time. I know I don’t think about people who are struggling as often as I could,” Matthew Bosquet of Amherst said. “It’s a good thing to reach into your pocket and give a little bit.”

22News Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis joined the march Thursday morning. Last year, they raised more than $50,000 for the food bank of Western Mass, and this year, they did even better; raising more than $65,000 for the Food Bank.
