Puppolo re-elected in 12th Hampden District

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Incumbent Democratic Rep. Angelo Puppolo has won a closely-watched race in the 12th Hampden District, defeating Republican Robert Russell, 22News projects.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Puppolo received 65 percent of the vote to Russell’s 35 percent.

Puppolo was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2007. He had previously served as a member of the Springfield City Council since the 1990s. Russell serves as the chairman of the Wilbraham Board of Selectmen, and had served for years on the town’s finance committee.

The 12th Hampden District includes all of Wilbraham, plus the northernmost portion of East Longmeadow, and parts of Springfield’s East Forest Park, Forest Park, and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods.
