MOJAVE, Cali. (NBC News) New evidence suggests both human error and mechanical failure played a role in the crash of Virgin Galactic’s experimental SpaceShipTwo test flight.

Video shot inside the cockpit shows the co-pilot unlocking the craft’s “descent feathers” far too early.

The feathers then deployed, even though a second lever used to engage them was not pulled.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, but don’t expect a final report in the immediate future.
