Police arrest 3 shooting suspects in Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Dartmouth responded to Tucker Road on Sunday morning to investigate a shooting.

While responding to the call, an officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a felony stop. Police then recovered the weapon and arrested three suspects.

Hakeem Mota, 19; Michael Pires, 21; Sidney Maia, 20; all of New Bedford, were charged with assault with intent to murder, discharge of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, among others. Maia was also held on a probation warrant.

“The shooting is not random, and that the victim knew one or more of the assailants. This is an isolated incident that carried over from an incident that occurred in New Bedford,” confirmed Chief Timothy Lee.

All three males will be arraigned in Third District Court in New Bedford on Monday, November 3.

The victim in the shooting was treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital.
