SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News spoke with the Solid Waste Department of the Department of Public Works, Monday afternoon, about the best way to clear those leaves around your home.
There are two ways to collect those leaves; you can put them in leaf bags that you buy at the hardware store, or you can place them in barrels you have at home.
You can put those bags and barrels out in front of your home on recycling day, but make sure they do not weigh more than 40 pounds.
A member of the DPW, Greg Superneau, told 22News what people shouldn’t do with those leaves. “One of the things we ask residents to not do is to rake their leaves directly into the street. They do need to be bagged into barrels or into paper bags. You can’t just rake up a big pile and rake that pile into the street.”
If you have any branches that have fallen, cut those into pieces that are no more than 3 inches in diameter and 2 feet in length. Bundle those pieces together, and bag them separately from the leaves.
