CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you drive on highways in Massachusetts you’ve seen them, electronic highway signs that provide information about traffic and weather conditions for drivers. Or do they?
The Commonwealth has invested millions of dollars in the statewide system, including several in Western Massachusetts. But some of the messages may not seem relevant to drivers here or fail to notify drivers of local road construction, closures or delays.
The 22News I-Team decided to take a closer look at the system. We paid a visit to the MassDOT’s hub to question the highway administrator about the signs, where they get their information, who decides what gets posted and when, and if they’re worth the cost to taxpayers.
