AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – A teen from Amherst who disappeared earlier this week has been found safe in New Haven, Connecticut, and that news is being welcomed by many residents of his hometown.

Amherst residents told 22News that they were concerned when 15 year old Richard Hogans Jr. was nowhere to be found, and they are relieved that he is okay.

22News contacted Amherst Police on Thursday, and Sgt. Gabriel Ting said Hogans was reunited with his family after a three-day search. No other information about where he was found or other circumstances would be given out.

But town residents 22News spoke with said that the most important piece of information is that Richards Hogans Jr. was found safe. They said it was a concern for the entire community.

“I think it affected all of us. I know on Facebook there was a huge outpouring of concern. People wanted to know if there were ways they could help, and as soon as the news came in that he was found and safe, it was like a massive community sigh of relief,” Stephanie O’Keefe of Amherst said.

The original search to find Hogan stretched from Amherst to South Deerfield after Hogans was last seen at Bart’s Ice Cream in Amherst on Monday afternoon. It’s not clear how the teen ended up in southern Connecticut.
