NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – If you need individual health insurance, you only have a couple weeks left to prepare. Open enrollment for the Massachusetts Health Connector website begins on November 15.
At Casa Latina in Florence on Thursday, an informational session was held to get people ready. Jean Yang, the Executive Director for the Health Connector started off the meeting by apologizing for all of the problems with the website roll-out last year; saying it’ll be better this year.
The Health Connector website is not for people who receive benefits through their employer; it’s for people seeking individual health insurance, which is mandated by law in Massachusetts.
“They could be applying for commercial health insurance, they could be applying for subsidized health insurance if they are low income and they are eligible, and they could even apply for Medicaid coverage if they are very low income and eligible,” Yang said.
If you had Health Connector coverage last year or were placed in a temporary plan, you will need to submit a new application.
Casa Latina will also be helping new Americans to enroll, who may have language or cultural difficulties.
