New Springfield and Chicopee officers receive badges

The officers are recent graduates from the Springfield Police Academy

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 23 new Springfield police officers and 6 Chicopee officers received their badges Thursday.

The 29 officers are recent graduates from the Springfield Police Academy. Friends and family filled the Springfield Central High School auditorium for the traditional pinning ceremony.

35-year Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Claprood told 22News she knew what was going on in the minds of these new police officers. She said, “You’re nervous, you’re excited, people are proud of you, but deep down you know you’re going into something brand new. You don’t know really what to expect.”

The 23 new Springfield police officers will soon be joined by six more members soon to graduate from the Western Massachusetts Police Training Academy at Springfield Technical Community College.
