Trial scheduled for Peabody man charged with killing his girlfriend

Trial in Salem Superior Court on March 16

SALEM, Mass. (AP) – A Peabody man charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend in her apartment is scheduled to face trial in March.

The Salem News reports that a Salem Superior Court judge on Tuesday set a March 16 trial date for 44-year-old Franklin Castano.

Castano is charged with first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm in connection with the February shooting death of 23-year-old Solanlly Paulino inside their Peabody apartment.

Authorities say Castano killed Paulino because she was trying to end the relationship, had asked him to move out of her apartment and tried to get him taken off the lease.
The gun used to shoot the victim has not been found. Castano told police that the shooting was an accident
