SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Work crews on Wednesday completed repairs to the top of the tornado damaged Old First Church in Springfield’s Court Square.
Baskin Builders of Feeding Hills finished repairing a steeple ornament atop the landmark church, which was built in 1819.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency provided the money for the work to address the damage from the June first tornado three years ago.
Craig Baskin of Baskin Builders told 22News, “We’ve done some moderate renovations to repair the church; bringing it back to where it’s safe and operable conditions.”
Employees inside the Old First Church were permitted to remain at their jobs during the restoration project.
