BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – Belchertown Police crews surrounded the railroad tracks at Warren Wright Road Wednesday night after a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train.
Belchertown Police Sgt. Bruce Jenks told 22News, just after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, the department received a call from New England Central Rail Road about a train hitting a man near Warren Wright Rd.
Sgt. Jenks said that when the officers arrived, they found the man dead. Police are still investigating what lead to the accident, but Sgt. Jenks added that foul play is not suspected.
22News reporter Yoojin Cho went to Belchertown and saw officers investigating the area around 11:00 p.m. The freight train was stopped on the tracks and blocking Warren Wright Road while police investigated.
The victim was identified on Thursday afternoon as Shennan Stevens, whose last known address was in Northampton.
