Hiker rescued after fall at rock quarry in Southwick

Rescue crews from both Agawam and Southwick used ATV's in the woods

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News is following a story on the town line of Southwick and Agawam. A hiker fell an unknown distance at a rock quarry in the woods in the area of 309 Southwick Street.

The Agawam Fire Department told 22News the hiker fell shortly before 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon.

Rescue crews from both Agawam and Southwick used ATV’s in the woods to help rescue the hiker, who was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital. It’s not clear how badly the hiker was hurt.

The rock quarry is located about half a mile into the woods near the M&M Trail. It’s a popular 114 mile long hiking trail along the Metacomet Ridge of the Pioneer Valley.
