SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Saturday night, a Blue Mass was held at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield to honor the men and women in blue who protect and serve.
This was the 8th annual Blue Mass., but the first one presided over by Bishop Mitchell Rozanski. The pews of St. Michael’s were filled with decorated police officers, firefighters and correctional officers.
In the Bishop’s homily, he referenced the tragic shooting in Ottawa Canada where a reservist was killed.
Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant told 22News he’s humbled and thankful to have a Mass dedicated to him profession.
“It’s very flattering that the diocese of Springfield and the Bishop would have a ceremony and a Mass. It’s nice for them once a year to recognize the work that the men and women in blue do for the city of Springfield and the surrounding communities.”
If you’d like to watch the Blue Mass service, it’ll air right here on 22News at 10 o’clock Sunday morning.
