Wet leaves can make for slippery driving conditions

If you have a storm drain in front of your house you should try and clear it.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A fall nor’easter brought plenty of rain and wind to western Massachusetts this week. The storm knocked a lot of the leaves, that have made for a pretty nice fall foliage season off the trees and onto lawns and streets.

The wet leaves on the roads can make for slippery conditions. It’s important to drive a little slower to avoid getting into an accident. It’s also difficult to stop on wet leaves if you have to brake quickly.

Some people 22News talked to take precautions when there are wet leaves on the ground.

“Yes I do of course when I’m driving and then getting your gutters clogged your gutters can over flow and flood the house. My husband and I rake the leaves every weekend to make sure the leaves don’t affect our house or driving either,” said Malinda Bresnahan of Southampton.

Yes it’s New England we have to take precautions Mother Nature is what she is. We know that when the roads are wet you drive a little slower and when it’s snowing you’re more careful. That’s common sense,” said AJ Juarez of Belchertown.

Also the leaves can clog storm drains and that can cause streets to flood. If you have a storm drain in front of your house you should try and clear it to be ready for the next time it rains.
