(NBC News) A man is dead this morning after attacking four New York police officers with a hatchet,

There is no direct link to ISIS, but investigators are looking at writings on what they believe to be the attacker’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the gunman that stormed Canada’s Parliament was a recent convert to Islam.

It’s all raising questions about whether ISIS is going after police as promised, and Washington is re-thinking security after another man jumped the White House fence.

“They’re considering a wide range of things, including the deployment of personnel, the deployment of technology and even physical obstacles, like a fence,” says White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.

A former Capitol Hill police chief suggests a fence around the Capitol.

“Any impediment you can give to slow people down is a positive,” says former chief Terrance Gainer.
