NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The lights are back on in Northampton, but thousands of people ate dinner in the dark Friday night.
National Grid spokeswoman Darlene Masse told 22News a squirrel was responsible for the power outage that plunged downtown into darkness at 4:30 Friday afternoon. More than 5,400 utility customers lost power.
Some equipment was damaged at the West Street sub-station, but crews were able to re-energize the lines in an hour and a half, just after 6 o’clock.
