$50K grant will benefit Zoo in Forest Park

Will benefit educational and cultural programs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A big financial boost from the state will help The Zoo in Forest Park.

A $50,000 grant has been allocated for cultural and educational programs at the zoo. The goal is to allow more young people to share in the zoo experience.

“They can come to the zoo, have a discovery program, and be able to see and feel and touch a hedgehog or a ferret,” Darlene Blaney of the zoo said.

The Legislature has allocated about $110,000 to the zoo over the last few years, but this was the largest single donation to the popular attraction.

There are more than 100 different species of animals at the zoo, ranging from monkeys to alligators to exotic birds.
