NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Good news for some drivers who live in Northampton and use Interstate-91 in their daily commutes.
Exit 18 on the northbound side has re-opened after being closed for months. Many drivers trying to get to the center of town are happy that they no longer have to take a detour.
Linda Florian of Springfield told 22News that she’s delighted that the ramp is finally open because she previously had to take an alternate route and sometimes would bump into traffic. “It takes forever to get through Northampton. It’s so long, and there are always people crossing; it takes forever.”
The barrier was supposed to have been taken down in July after work crews finished repairing the deteriorating Route 5 overpass, but they found the overpass needed a lot more work that they originally thought.
