CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s something you’ve probably seen before; a co-worker coughing, sneezing, or getting sick at work.
A recent survey by the office supply chain Staples found 60% of people say they still go to work, even when they’re sick. Surprisingly, that’s actually down from last year when 90% of people surveyed said they went to work sick.
People told 22News that they try not to spread germs, but they can’t afford to miss work. “Well if I have a fever or if I’m very sick, I’ll stay home, but if I just have a little cold, then I’ll go to work because colds can last a while, a few weeks. And I can’t stay home for a few weeks,” said Adrienne Latham, of West Springfield
Financial reasons do keep some people from taking a sick day, although about four in 10 American workers do not have paid sick time.
