PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A fight between two brothers in Pawtucket ended with one under arrest and another in the hospital with nearly half his ear bitten off.

Police arrested Melvin S. Gboe, 35, Monday on charges of domestic felony assault, mutilation, resisting arrest and misdemeanor domestic assault.

According to Major Arthur Martins, Gboe and his younger brother Patrick Gboe, 27, got into a fight after Patrick accused Melvin of drinking all the alcohol in the house and not leaving any for him.

Martins said during the fight, Melvin bit a large chunk out of his brother’s ear. He said both men were drunk at the time.

Responding paramedics retrieved the severed portion of the ear and took Patrick to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Martins said he was not sure if doctors were able to reattach the body part.

Melvin Gboe was arraigned and released on personal recognizance. However, he was ordered to have no contact with his brother.
