HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – U.S. employers added 248,000 jobs in September, but the job market is far from perfect. Massachusetts Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rachel Kaprielian said, “We’re growing, but we’re growing at a pretty slow and steady clip.”

In Massachusetts, the statewide jobless rate as of August was 5.8%, but if you break down the numbers into different regions, here in the Springfield area, the unemployment rate was much higher at 7.1%.

According to the Federal Department of Labor, job seekers should look for jobs in health care, computer technology or construction. Those industries will add millions of jobs over the next 8 years.

On Friday, a company that involves two of those three industries opened a new office in Holyoke. VertitechIT is a healthcare technology consulting firm that helps hospitals better organize and manage medical records.

Myles Angell’s company uses VertitechIT’s services. He told 22News, “I mean the advantages obviously are the partner who knows what’s going on. We are not having to teach them the technologies and bring them up to speed on the medical side of things.”

VertitechIT’s newest client is Baystate Health. Chief Operating Officer Greg Pellerin said, “It’s working with their electronic health records and all of their back-end computer systems to the latest technologies.”
