Police identify Springfield’s 14th homicide victim of 2014

Joseph Gorecki was shot on Nursery Street

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that happened on Nursery Street at the Sullivan Apartments.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, around 2:14 p.m. Monday, 19-year-old Joseph Gorecki of Hampden and a 21-year-old man from Springfield were shot at 181 Nursery Street.

Both were driven to the Mercy Emergency Room for gunshot wounds in a “private vehicle.” Due to the severity of Gorecki’s injuries, he was moved to the Baystate Emergency Room where he was later pronounced dead. The Springfield man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Mercy.

Sgt. Delaney said Detectives from the Springfield Police Department’s “Homicide Unit” are present working on this case following leads and talking with witnesses. No arrests have been made yet on this case.
