(WWLP) – Retail experts now say more Americans will be starting their holiday shopping earlier and spending more than in years past.
The National Retail Federation’s newest survey says those big spenders are not alone. This year an expected increase in overall holiday spending could reach an estimated 617 billion dollars, which retail experts say is thanks to recent job growth and an improving housing market.
The survey also found an estimated 40% of holiday shoppers say they’re going to be hitting the stores before we even reach the end of October. Something that surprised some western Massachusetts shoppers.
The National Retail Federation warns, starting too early could cause you to overspend. Here’s some ways to avoid that:
- Make a list
- Write down who you’re buying for and how much you can spend on each person.
- Do your research
- If you’re getting an early start you’ll have to time to shop around for the best deal.
- Mark your calender, online shopping can save you money, but missing certain shipping deadlines can end up costing you more in delivery charges than the online bargain was worth.
