CHESHIRE, Conn. (AP) — A prison guard has suffered a puncture wound to the neck in an attack at the Cheshire Correctional Institution.
Department spokeswoman Karen Martucci says two inmates assaulted two guards during what she says was a routine interaction early Thursday afternoon.
Both guards were sent to Waterbury Hospital. She says the second guard had minor injuries and was not stabbed.
She says the puncture wound was not life threatening.
She says state police are investigating and the facility was placed in lockdown following the attack.
She says both inmates involved were immediately transferred to a maximum security facility.
She says the department will review the incident to determine what may have gone wrong and whether any policy changes need to be implemented.
The names of those involved were not immediately released.
