CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Wednesday’s devastating microburst caught a lot of people by surprise. The storm came with little warning, at an hour when many people were still sleeping.
22News is working for you with information on how you and your family can be prepared for severe weather.
First, it’s a good idea to make an emergency kit. Westfield Director of Emergency Management Jim Wiggs said your kit should include batteries, a flashlight, a first aid kit, chargers, water, prescription medications you may need, and tools.
Wiggs explained to 22News what people should do if there’s a weather emergency in the middle of the night. He said, “Go to a safe place in your house and tune in a radio or TV, and listen in. If you have a portable radio you can get it close enough to an area where you can pick up reception.”
Having an emergency weather radio can also give you information directly from the National Weather Service.
